Who can receive legal assistance

Aarhus Retshjælp offers legal advice on three levels. Basically, everyone can receive judicial aid independent of income.

Level 1

Level 1 is basic verbal counselling. At this level, we identify the nature of your legal problem and inform you of your legal rights. The counselling is your tool to establishing whether you want to proceed with the case and how to do so. We always try to give advice that enables you to proceed on your own. In some cases we offer further counselling at level 2 or 3. In other cases we refer you to the relevant public authorities or a lawyer. Counselling on level 1 is typically anonymous and free of charge regardless of income.

Levels 2 and 3

Level 2 and 3 include counselling and actual case handling, including correspondence with counterparties, application for legal aid, procedural documents in small claims, demands for payments and complaints over the ruling of a public authority. Level 3 may include further counselling in order to reach an amicable settlement of a dispute. As default, counselling on levels 2 and 3 is only available if you meet the financial conditions for legal aid. Click here to see current rates. The rates are adjusted annually.
